Preface: Proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Management in Emerging Markets (ICMEM) SBM ITB

Abstract

As Chair of the Organizing Committee, I am pleased to extend a warm invitation to academics, researchers, and students to participate in the 9th International Conference on Management in Emerging Markets (ICMEM 2025). This conference will be hosted at the School of Business and Management, Institut Teknologi Bandung, in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. It offers a unique and vibrant setting for this dynamic event. ICMEM 2025 provides a vital platform for scholars, industry leaders, and policymakers to exchange ideas and insights on the theme: “Sustainable Growth and Innovation in Emerging Markets: Strategic Decisions, Collaboration, ESG Goals, and Circular Economies.”

ICMEM 2025 will spotlight the strategic priorities essential for sustainable development in emerging markets, emphasizing the importance of building collaborative ecosystems that transcend traditional institution and industry boundaries. The program is thoughtfully curated to provide diverse opportunities for engagement, including research paper presentations, a paper development workshop, a doctoral colloquium, a poster session, and an industry forum — each designed to bridge academic inquiry with practical impact.

Emerging markets face the pressing challenge of achieving economic growth while addressing environmental and social imperatives. This calls for innovative, forward-thinking strategies that integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations into core business practices and embrace circular economy principles. These intertwined areas are fundamental to navigating the evolving complexity of emerging markets and to fostering resilient, inclusive, and sustainable business models. We especially encourage submissions that examine how business models contribute to the advancement of circular economy principles—whether at the level of individual managers, organizations, value networks, or industrial ecosystems. By embracing this multi-level perspective, the conference aims to cultivate a holistic understanding of the opportunities and challenges in aligning business strategies with sustainable development goals.

More than an academic forum, ICMEM 2025 is a call to action. It invites participants to be part of a global conversation on innovative, actionable approaches to sustainable development in the world’s most dynamic and fast-changing economies.
